Who chooses whom?
Scientists throughout the ages have debated whether it is the magical being or the animal who first chooses to bond themself with the other. Thoughts have changed over the years, but it is generally believed that the animal is the initiator of the relationship.
Reasons
The magical being is usually just starting to gain powers and does not recognize the animal has migaly potential.
Magical beings may want a migaly, but do not possess enough kindness, empathy and understanding to successfully handle the day to day life with a migaly. Migalies usually come from wild species of animals and are not easy to deal with.
Some magical beings will not possess the amount of magical power needed to have a partnership with a migaly. The bond can take over a being’s life and can cause negative effects on the person.
Most migalies have the ability to hide themselves and many users of magic may not be able to see them.
In some cases, a migaly is called upon by a magical beings family to protect a family member. This often happens when they can no longer be with their loved one, and are worried about their loved ones future. It is important to note that the migaly was never bonded to any of the other family members. Scientists believe that the particular migaly was near, and merely waiting for their chosen being to come into their powers. The animal was drawn to the family member(s) for company while waiting for their companion’s powers to mature.
When asked migalies always say that they chose their companion.
Why is a Migaly attracted to someone?
Attraction to a magical being is different with each species of animal, and the supernatural abilities they have. While an extensive list of migalies is beyond the scope of this article, here are a few.
Fox Migalies
Foxes are known as beings who are cunning, adaptable and intelligent. They are perceived as tricksters. Because of their unique personalities they tend to choose academics, smaller individuals who use their intelligence within their magical jobs, individuals who must make changes often, and beings who enjoy time alone.
Wolf Migalies
Wolves are known for their deep connection, reluctance to enter into conflict, teamwork, high intelligence and playfulness. When they choose a magical being, they choose someone who will happily become deeply bonded with them. They do not want to argue unnecessarily, so they want to be bonded with someone who will negotiate, and work as a team in all situations, Often they choose someone who likes sports, music, and in some cases trickery.
Horse Migalies
This form of bonding is rare. Very few magical beings have the ability to care for a migaly as large as a horse.
Horse migalies are are vigilant, inquisitive and habitual. They tend to prefer magical beings in the protection or law industries.
Hawk or Cave Bird Migalies
These migalies arethe most prevalent in the universe. Birds are independent and tend to travel far away from their magical being before returning. Because of bird migalies are territorial, when they have been away, they get angry if the boundaries of their home have been changed. Their observant gaze allows them to see even minute changes and they will demand that they be withdrawn.
Bird migalies are patient when waiting. They will wait for their bonded companion for many moons, observe someone suspicious until they leave, and wait quietly in the background if their bonded companion asks them to.
Lynx or wild Cat Migalies
These migalies have sharp vision. They are known for understanding hidden and mysterious things. Cat migalies tend to be attracted to magical beings with high powers, as the beings usually work in interesting and unusual places where challenges abound.
Lynx or wild cat migalies tend to be the most likely to have strong supernatural powers. Scientists don’t understand why.
Jynx’s Note to Angelika
Can a Being Refuse a Migaly?
A magical being can refuse to be bonded with a migaly but this rarely happens. Migalies are cherished companions in the magical community. Other magical beings may wonder why the being is reluctant for the kinship, and make assumptions. This tends to affect the beings status in the magical community.
For the few beings who choose to refuse a migaly’s bond, the refusal is usually temporary. MIgalies try several times to create a bond before leaving.
If a refused bond is finally accepted, the migaly will punish their new companion. This can be in pranks, misdirection, destroying objects, or moving things.
A WARNING On Migalies
A Migaly is a companion. Wolves may ride. Hawks may fly. Dragons may carry.
But what your Migaly can do and what your Migaly is willing to do are not always the same thing.
Always ask first. Trust me, ask first!
Failure to ask might result in biting, hard landings, being left in solitary locations, or poisoning.
