How were the Caves Formed?
The caves beneath the Spineback Mountains are one of the most ancient formations on Erudus. A long time ago, warm underground rivers slowly ate through layers of weaker stone in the mountain. They carved passages and lakes before changing course and flowing out down into the valley. Water dripped from the ceilings downwards onto the floor creating unique and wonderful creations.
Special Rock Formations of the Echoing Caverns
Since the echoing caverns have been forming on Erudus for many years, strange formations have been formed in the caves. They appear no where else on the planet. Here are some.
Cathedrals
Stalactites and stalagmites grew together over thousands of years creating pillars in the caves.
Moon Rivers
These are thin sheets of stone in which magical crystals are embedded inside. They catch some light. They glow frosty blue and look from a distance like they form a waterfall flowing down wall.
Dragon Jaws
These are formations where long spiky stalactites come down from the ceiling. If the wind hits them in the right way, they sound like they are humming,
Singing Giants
These are pillars that veins of crystal running through them. Movement around them makes the singing giants “sing”.
Other Features
Collapsed chambers from the planets volcanic age.
Magical minerals that appear in long faults. In some rooms the entire room looks like a colorful rainbow.
Rivers lying beneath the main passages. Sometimes the rivers rise in the lower caverns, especially the cosmic gate area, making it impossible to navigate the chamber.
Random fossils that are trapped in minerals and crystals.
Veins of cobalt-blue minerals that reverberate with sound. They help masters of sound magic enhance their powers
The Resonai
The Resonai were some of the first people living on Erudus. They lived on the Spineback Mountains. The Resonai found the Echoing Cavers and enhanced the caves by sculpting into the walls.
The crystals in the mountain are affected by sound. The Resonai found that the chambers amplified sounds and could send emergency messages far down the mountain. They learned to sculpt the stone to make the enhancement of sound even greater.
Several masters of sound magic lived or visited here.
Because sound was so important in these chambers The individuals carved prophecies into the stone. They sang in the resonance chamber where the cavern remembered the songs. Some individuals can awaken these songs and learn from the past.
The Chambers
The chambers are irregular in shape, but are usually oblong of circular.
Large chambers served as libraries, political arenas, entertainment spaces, and observatories of the stars.
Homes blended almost invisibly into existing rock.
Where did the Resonati Go?
A long time before Angelika arrived, the Resonati, with their prophets, saw that corruption would happen on Erudus. They feared that their powers would be used to help destroy the life forms on the planet.
They chose to seal many of the chambers and then scatter tot he stars.
Layout of the Echoing Caverns
The chambers that were visible when Angelika arrives on Erudus, were some of the oldest. Chambers included the hidden gate chamber, old hearths, the night spot, the restful room, Jynx’s chamber, resonance chamber, deep archive and the ancient portal.
