Why so many light words?
Long before the outside world bought watches and clocks to divide the days on Erudus, its people used light traveling over the mountains to mark time. The first glow of of the sun rising over a mountain ridge, the peak of the midday sun over the forests, and the first stars reflecting on the waters at night, could be understood by everyone. The Erudians naturally began to study the sun, light and the changes in the sky. Light became the basis for many of the words used for measurement.
It seems especially appropriate that light is used every day in Erudus. The ancients believed that light held magic, and the rise of the sun carried the day forward. Light was thought to bring about the unfolding of the world. Today, these beliefs still hold strong. The Erudians believe that without light that their world will cease to exist.
