Spirits and other Supernatural Beings of Erudus
Creating the animals, creatures and supernatural beings of Angelika Moonglenn's Fantastical World
"Between the aurora and stone dwell those who live on and refuse to abandon Erudus."
Book of the Shadows
The Spineback Mountain regions is one of the oldest and most magical places on Erudus. Ghost and supernatural beings have been drawn to the region since ancient times. Many types of spirits and supernatural beings live on the mountain. Below are listed some of the most well know.
Snow Veil Spirits
These spirits only show during the cold seasons. They are formed from blowing snow. When they build a shell of snow, wind and swirling flakes, they choose to resemble people. It is thought they do this to make individuals more comfortable around them. They are benevolent and have been known to lead travelers to safety around the mountains, and to cover hidden crevasses.
Aurora Spirits
These spirits come alive when the aurora hangs behind the mountain. They are multi-colored with glowing silver light in their hair. Aurora sprites drift over the mountains until dawn when they fall to the ground and disappear forever.

Frost Mothers
These are ancient female spirits who protect the vegetation on the Spineback Mountains. Occasionally, when there is a late snowstorm the Frost Mothers can be seen surrounding a stand of flowers to protect them from the ice. No one knows why the mothers choose to protect certain places, but they seem to have an unknown plan.
River Whisperers
These are water spirits who live in the crisp cold mountain lakes. They can be seen by the mist and ripples they make. Occasionally, a reflection of one of them in the water can be seen from the corner of your eye.
Resonance Keepers
These beings are translucent and made of sound waves. Because Erudus is so connected to sound, these beings have adapted to keep the natural resonance of the peaks of the Spinebacks. Without them the mountains become inhabitable. Without them avalanches occur daily, caves collapse, and magical creatures become restless and disappear.
Spirit Stags
Spirit Stags are huge white deer-like ghosts. They rarely appear. When they do appear it is usually after a loved ones death and only to one person. The people of the mountain believe that when the stag appears the deceased is telling their loved ones that he has successfully crossed over the veil.
Mist Sprites
These are small supernatural beings that build clouds. They can be seen early in he morning when the mist begins to rise into the valleys.
Crystal Pixies
These are beings that live inside the crystal chambers in caves. The only purpose of these pixies seems to be to chip off gems from the walls of the caves.
Crystal pixies hum in tune with the walls of the cave as they reverberate. Their song is alluring.
One children’s tale says that you should never follow the song of the Crystal Pixies. If you do, you will become one of them and spend the rest of your life mining in the semi-darkness.
Cliff Ancestors
Cliff Ancestors are spirits who lived in the Spineback Mountains when they were alive. They were so fond of the area that they chose to remain behind to “protect” the mountain and its people.
These ancestors can often be seen sitting beside campfires stopping sparks from setting fires, walking through caves moving stones away from pathways, and watching where meteors land.
These spirits sing songs that advise the mountain about their mountain home.
The Choir
The choir are supernatural beings who have no form. They are invisible. You can’t see them but you can hear them on the wind as their songs float down the mountain and across the valley.
No one really knows who they are, or why on occasion they choose to sing. Some people thing that the sound is remnants of ancient cultures singing long ago. They believe that their sound is somehow being pulled across the rift of time.
Others believe that it is the mountains of Erudus calling when they are happy and content.
Magical beings whisper that Erudus is so close to the heart of magic that the universe itself is singing. They believe that the sound heralds an oncoming change in the future.
Angelika is one of the few individuals who can actually see the forms of the choir.
Gate Watchers
Gate watchers are ancient beings that have stood beside cosmic gates watching who goes through them and where they go. Although they can not interfere with a persons transit, they know who has gone through the stones.
No one knows why they do this. The ancients believed that something would happen that would make the gate watchers duty important, and all would be revealed. This has never happened.
Veil Walkers
These beings are ghost-like, but are not true spirits. They are supernatural travelers that move between the universe and the veil.
It is not know why they choose to come, where they go when they disappear and if they are really alive or just memories in the night.
Veil walkers leave glowing footprints where they walk that disappear with the oncoming dawn.
Aurora Wisps
Wisps are tiny benevolent floating lights. They are curious and playful. If Aurora Wisps like you they will try to play with you but they don’t know how. Sometimes their “play” can cause misfortune for the individual they are dealing with.
Sometimes, while Angelika sleeps aurora wisps put knots in her hair. Jynx tries to stop them but wisps are even faster than he is.
The Rememberer
The Rememberer is a spirit that has been on Erudus since ancient times. It can appear as whatever it feels it needs to. one day it may be an old woman, the next day a stag.. Sometimes it doesn’t even have a form and merely presents itself as a quiet comforting voice in the wind.
The Remeberer knows everything that has happened on the Spineback Mountains for thousands of years. To those who are willing to listen and who it says are worthy, the remember is a wonderful source of entertainment and history.
Cliff Weavers
Memory whispers look like a small fox but they swirl with mist, moonlight, crystals and the aurora,
Memory weavers are silent. They do not speak. Instead, they judge travelers on the mountain. If they feel the person is worthy, they will pull a memory out of the mountain and allow the watcher to experience it.
Memory weavers love Angelika and have shown her changes in the vegetation on the mountain, visions of the old dwellers, and the sight of the first Echo Wing hatching,
Star Shepherds
These spirits only awaken during meteor showers. They appear and gather the falling stars within their translucent cloak. No one understands why they do this or what happens with the objects they retrieve.
Dragons seem to know who the star shepherds are and they respect them. Dragons bow and try to protect the star shepherds when they appear.
Echo Spirits
These beings aren’t ghosts nor are they living creatures. They are echos from the people of the mountains that have left behind visions of their powerful emotions, songs, tragedies and magical events.
The spirits can often be seen under the aurora, their ivory-cobalt figures are transparent and often missing parts of their body. They float across the landscape replaying melodies or conversations from long ago.
Echo spirits only survive on Erudus and the Spineback Mountain region. They are drawn to ledges, cliffs and caves. Very few individuals can see to the spirits. Angelika Moonglenn is one of them.
