The Spellbound Archives is a new series that will discuss the world of Erudus. Today’s post is the seventh key of magic. In the following weeks, information on how magic works, the 13 keys, and the Magus Alliance, will be discussed further. Other elements of Erudus, such as creatures, world building, and sound will be explored.
What is Elemental Magic?
Elemental magic is the key that deals with fire, water, air and soil. Spells are different for each category, but generally allow manipulation of the raw elements, so that the maga can protect themselves, regenerate elements in their raw state, or go into battle, This key is one of the first types of magic that ancestors discovered. It is very common for people to use small bits of this magic. People of the Southern region of the Peridopides, for instance, often use small amounts of fire magic to light fires, torches and produce light.
Fire
The ability to use and start fires, reshape metal, wood and stone, or the ability to withstand walking through fires and surviving extreme heat.
Individuals involved with minor use of fire magic are often employed by plinaries or by wealthy individuals to entertain others.
Masters of fire magic are often employed by the Magaus Alliance as they can use this key in battle.
Water
The ability to use water to stop fire, ease droughts, shape the environment and people. In extreme cases masters can walk through water and survive underwater for several suns.
Minor powers in water magic, are often employed in the great gardens of the universe, tending rare plants.
Masters of water magic can use water in battle and are often employed by the Magaus Alliance
Air
The ability to manipulate the wind in order to ease the heat, and reshape rock. Air magic is also called Climate Magic.
Minor powers in air magic are used on certain areas of the universe to mitigate the temperature to livable levels. Members often work as climatologists.
Masters of air magic can reshape the environment around them. Air magic requires time. Since it is impractical to use air magic in battle, the Magaus Alliance tends not to employ these people. Although on occasion, masters are employed as climatologists when planning campaigns.
Soil Magic- Do not confuse this with Earthen Magic
The ability to manipulate the soil to create new types of soil, dig and fill trenches, see distances into the earth, and reroute rivers with clay.
Minor powers in soil magic make amazing construction workers and architects.
Masters in this type of magic are also employed by the great gardens of the universe. They are employed by the Magaus Alliance on humanitarian missions to help rebuild worlds

Who Uses High Elemental Magic?
Chaiz - Co-head of the Magaus Alliance - Interested in architecture and the building of structures, that are in harmony with the environment surrounding them, Chaiz has actively studied, the earth and fire elements of Elemental magic. Although, he has not gained mastery over the entire key, he has mastered these two forms. He uses his mastery when building nests and planning humanitarian efforts.
Elon - Co-head of the Magaus Alliance - Master in the water portion of this key. Born on a water world, Elon used this type of magic from a young age to help ease a great drought on his home planet. Humanitarian efforts, such as this, were the first things that interested Elon in the Magaus Alliance.
The Magaus Alliance.members - As powers in this key are relatively common, many members of the alliance use elemental magic in their work. While rivalry amongst the members is discouraged, focus on specific talents can often be found in the members athletic teams, etc. In the Eastern regions, for example, Battle Ball teams are often divided into Water, Earth, Air and Soil.
Limitations and Costs of Illusion Magic
Newcomers to this key can do very little and their is little danger that their powers can hurt others. They are often employed by entertainment firms, and wealthy individuals, as curiosities.
Mastery of any key often comes with extreme costs and limitations. Very few true masters of Elemental magic have existed through time. Legends say that there was once a master, Petia Sazon, who had mastered all four of the sub types. Petia, however, is found sparsely through the great historical texts, and his fate, although eluded to, has been removed from history.
Masters of the individual types of this magic tend to face the same costs and limitations. If a master uses magic on a planet, in a large scale operation, the maga undergoes a period when her powers revert and are limited. At this point she becomes vulnerable to other magical beings. Magas who usually cannot be hurt by minor magical beings, can at this time, be hurt or killed easily.
When the maga recovers her magical abilities, parts of the magas health does not recover. The results are different for each maga, but the health issues are progressive. Sniffles may occur on the first instance, only to be replaced by sneezing on the second instance. Symptoms become worse on each use.
Society, Technology and Daily Structures.
Elemental Magic is ingrained in the day to day operations of the Magaus Alliance. Over 65% of the organization can use one of the four parts of this key.
It is not uncommon to see individuals from outside the organization using small elements of this key daily. The use of these four elements in magic has become so much the norm, that citizens forget that the use of this magic is unusual, and take it for granted.
In regions where Elemental magic is frequently used, technological innovation has lagged behind.
