Who Uses High Earthen Magic?
Angelika Moonglen - Although Angelika’s powers all begin at about the same time, Earthen magic is one of the first types of powers Angelika learns to use. She initially is able to grow plants and recreate the landscape. Angelika will eventually master this key of magic.
The Great Mother, high priestess and leader, of the Cosmos Flow - Master of Earthen magic, the Great Mother, uses her powers to protect the Elden tree. Legends say, that as long as she remains powerful, the Elden tree will flourish.
The High Sorceress of the Order of the Enchanted Daughters - The high sorceress has limited abilities in earthen magic. Her use of this key, with her proficiency in negotiations and words, is used to teach the other Enchanted Daughters.
Limitations and Costs of Earthen Magic
People who are new or relatively inexperienced in Earthen magic, can only affect small areas surrounding them. The changes they make are not permanent and usually only last for a few minutes.
Masters in Earthen magic can affect several kilometers of an area, but they can only affect it if they are in the vicinity. They can choose to make the changes temporary or permanent, but permanence comes at a cost. Each time a magic person changes their surroundings they lose approximately five years of their lives.
Certain earthen abilities can also cause sickness in magical people. The manipulation of certain minerals and rocks affects the air passages, and causes blood diseases.
Society, Technology and Daily Structures.
Minor earthen magic became common in one family centuries ago. The magic of this family has been passed down through their generations. Now, there are more than ten thousand descendants, who have inherited powers.
These people are the farmers and miners on Erudus, and have created guilds to grow food, maintain gardens, and mine. Sometimes, these guilds, band together in factions, and in several instances, they have been instrumental in causing wars.
The southern guild, on the lonely continent, has shut their doors to the outside world and declared itself a sovereign nation.
Because the people on Erudus are so dependent on these guilds and their earthen magic, high technology in these fields has not been developed.
This was a short introduction to Earthen magic. Future posts will describe other keys.
