The Spellbound Archive Series - Type 5 - Transmutation Magic
Transforming wood, metal, stone and Erudus
Introducing the Spellbound Archives
The Spellbound Archives is a new series that will discuss the world of Erudus. Today’s post is the fifth key of magic. In the following weeks, information on how magic works, the 13 keys, and the Magus Alliance, will be discussed further. Other elements of Erudus, such as creatures, world building, and sound will be explored.
What is Transmutation Magic?
Transmutation magic is the 5th key of magic. A maga can modify solid objects such as wood, steel or rock. While there are a few joinings left that modify rock as they bring it out from under the mountains, the key is mostly used for entertainment. Transmutation is a common key, but mastery is very rare. When a maga masters this type of magic, they become powerful in societies where money is important. The ability to transform basic metal to titanium or platinum is especially sought after.
Members of the third key can:
Modify basic rock in order to pull out precious minerals
Used in the plinary (circus-like entertainment) to entertain others. Members of these plinaries who can use transmutation magic are the most popular in the industry. Maga’s do things like making wheels square, splintering wood without touching it, and creating necklaces out of metal.
Transform basic metal into more precious minerals. Since platinum, and titamnium are used in technology, leaders seek to entice transmutation masters to their territories for the financial gain.
Extraction of cobalt. This mineral is used on Erudus in clothing and is very popular. Magas can extract it much easier than others.
The color of this magic.

Who Uses High Transmutation Magic?
Cov Min- leader of a titanium mine on Angelika’s range of mountains. - His powers are low. His only power is the ability to find and extract titanium ten times faster than non transmutation practitioners.
Luellin Pols - Master of this key. A man who moves around often. He chooses to work with the leader who pays him the most. Luellin has contempt for non-magical beings and women. He is clever and can act charming, especially to women, but never treats them well. He doesn’t care who he hurts, and seems to care for no one but himself.
Ville and Yuim Morf - Twins of unknown origins. Members of the Popus Plinary. A traveling troop of entertainers. The girls are two of the few members who are members of the plinary who are not musicians. Their act specializes in manipulating wood.
Limitations and Costs of Transmutation Magic
Individuals with minor transmutation magic often work in the mines. Th spend much of their lives, in the dark interior of the mountain, moving rock. The mines are so dangerous that miners often work less than ten years before they are either killed or hurt. The hours are long, and the work is hard, leaving the maga with little time to learn more about their magic, or spend time with their family and friends.
Magical beings, who work for the plinaries, travel and very rarely have a place of their own in any community. They have few friends other than the ones they make in the plinary.
While the masters of transmutation magic make a great deal of money, and are sought after by leaders, their work is boring. They perform the same actions repetitively. Very few masters learn to be loyal to a particular leader or culture.
Society, Technology and Daily Structures.
Miners are the back bone of society on Erudus. They provide the metals and minerals that the people nee to build houses, protect themselves, and ship off planet to sell. Because this industry is so important, many leaders created laws to keep the miners at any cost..
The rise in technology has caused Erudus to become more important to outsiders. Although, its position far to the end of the universe has kept them somewhat protected, the rise of war and has led to leaders increasingly ignoring the people’s love for nature, and pushing to export more of the planet’s resources. Fortunately, because of the planet’s remote nature, there are only two days a year where the outsiders come to take the resources away. The amount of resources that can be moved during that time is limited.
This was a short introduction to Transmutation magic. Future posts will describe other keys.
