“Name what is lost, and the flame will seek what no eye can see.”
The Grimoire of Spellcraft
What is the Wandering Beacon?
The wandering beacon is a small magical flame that moves in the direction of a person or place when the right words or the correct actions are performed.
It is a rare form of Spellcraft that can only be used by certain masters, and the flame chooses when it works.
Why use the Wandering Beacon?
Because the wandering beacon is so rare, masters are wary to use it. They generally only use it in emergency circumstances.
The beacon is so strong that it can show beings where a missing person is for one moon after she went missing. It can also show where something is, where there is focused magical activity, or where something happened.
While it may seem that the beacon is something that would be readily used by a master who has access to it, using the beacon is dangerous. A master must forfeit something to the universe if it is used. If some person or place is far away, or if the master used it after 20 brights of the thing going missing, she will be called upon to give away something. This could be their powers, loss of a body part, insanity, or the development of a rare and unusual disease.
The wandering flame comes with visions that warn the user about the consequences of using it. If the master ignores the warnings, the consequences became worse.
What is the Beacon Made of and where did it come from?
The beacon is made of pure energy that flowed from the fabled volcano of Spellfire, located on the planet Cyravane. The energy was collected by one of the ancients and trapped in the beacon. It was then moved to Erudus where it has lay dormant in the deepest caves on the Spineback Mountains.
It wasn’t until the civilization’s on Erudus began to fall that the beacon was found. Since then it has been used by four magical beings. Each person sought to use the beacon to gain power, and each time the being was killed. It is rumored that the embers of the beacon are stirring. Sometime in the near future, the beacon will be successfully used.
