Welcome to October. Welcome to the Celebration of Spirits.
Erudus always slows down in October to remember those who have moved onto the Spirit Veil, to celebrate and cherish friends and family, and to make the spirits happy when the veil thins.

Many years ago, just after the thirteen families received their gifts of magic, the veil began to thin in October.
The Spirit Veil, the barrier between the living world and the world of the dead, had always been inaccessible to all living beings. But, something changed that year. A mist formed over the opening near the middle of October, and continued to thicken. On the last day of that chilly month, many of the Spirits escaped the Veil and came back to their old haunts.
Erudians were happy to reunite with their loved ones. They couldn’t hug the spirits as they are formless, but hearing their voices even though they were low and haunting, brightened their souls.
The families were devastated when the spirits were sucked back into the veil, never to be seen by their family again.
The next year, families who had lost a loved one over the seasons, hoped that they would appear too. But, it was dark that October and they were afraid the spirits would get lost. So, the families of the Spineback Mountains lit lanterns to lead the ghosts to the community gathering place. At the center of the square they built bonfires and spoke of their memories of their loved ones.
A mass of spirits has never come through again, but one or two lost souls joins the community by the fire. These spirits are revered and made to feel welcome. While the night is young, there is music, food and dancing. The people try to help the spirit if they can, and when she returns to the veil, the entire community walks with her to the barrier.
There are some destructive spirits who come through that night, but the Hearthkin know that in every community there is good and bad individuals, and they are prepared.
The Celebration of Spirits has become a month long celebration of family, love, remembrance and gratitude. It is one of the most loved seasons on the planet.

During the festival, many of the strangest creatures on Erudus are easier for the Hearthkin to find. They seem to be attracted to the thinning of the veil.
The Moon Guardian is a Spirit Wolf that is never seen on the mountains except during October. It guides children through the veil. Read more about The Moon Guardian, the Spirit Wolf
Aurora Wisps can be seen on the mountains every day. During October they become especially active an increasingly destructive. Most Hearth kin avoid them. But, Serai has loved them since she was a child. Find out why here.
The Phantom Fox speaks for the dead and it has a message for Angelika. Read about Silverthroat.
